R3 Carpentry are carpenters and joiners based in Acton, W3, fitting floors across Fulham and South West London. Because we are carpenters first, we do the whole job properly: the subfloor preparation underneath, the floor itself, and the skirting, beading, thresholds and door trimming that finish it off. No call centres, no subcontractors — you deal directly with the team laying your floor.
A floor is one of the few things in your home you look at and walk on every single day, and the difference between a good fit and a rushed one shows quickly: gaps at the skirting, lippage between boards, creaks where the subfloor was never levelled. We fix the cause before we lay a single board, and our work comes with a craftsmanship guarantee.
We supply and fit, or fit flooring you have already bought. Either way you get a free site survey and a written quote that covers the full scope — and if anything changes mid-job, we tell you before we proceed.
Most of the floors we fit in Fulham are in Victorian terraces the streets between Munster Road and Wandsworth Bridge Road, the larger houses around Parsons Green, and the mansion flats along New King’s Road. These properties are rarely straightforward: original floorboards that have moved over a century, joists that run in unhelpful directions, and subfloors that need genuine preparation before anything new goes down.
Newer homes have their own requirements. The riverside developments around Sands End and Imperial Wharf are mostly concrete subfloors with underfloor heating, which changes both the product choice and the installation method engineered boards or LVT rather than solid wood, and the right underlay and expansion gaps for a heated floor.
We have fitted floors in both. If you are unsure what your property can take or whether the herringbone you have seen will work over your underfloor heating the site survey is free, and we will give you a straight answer before you spend anything on materials.
We fit every common domestic floor type across Fulham and West London. Our work includes:
The scope and price are agreed before we start. If your project also involves floor sanding and restoration of existing boards, ask when you get in touch we will tell you honestly whether your old floor is worth restoring or better replaced.
Why R3 Carpentry
A floor is only as good as what surrounds it. Because we are qualified carpenters and joiners, the skirting, beading, thresholds and door trimming are done by the same team to the same standard not left for someone else.
We are based in Acton, W3 and work across Fulham, Hammersmith, Chelsea and Putney every week. We know the housing stock Victorian terraces, mansion flats, riverside new-builds and what each one needs.
You get a detailed written quote before any work begins, covering preparation, fitting and finishing. No surprises on the final bill if the scope changes mid-job, we discuss it with you before proceeding.
Creaks, bounce and open joints are almost always a subfloor problem, not a board problem. We level, fix and where needed re-board the subfloor before laying anything it is the reason the floor lasts.
Engineered or solid? Herringbone or straight lay? LVT in the kitchen? We will tell you what works for your property and budget, whether you buy the flooring yourself or have us supply it through our trade accounts.
All our work is insured and comes with a craftsmanship guarantee. If something is not right after we leave, we come back and fix it.
We visit your home in Fulham, measure up, check the subfloor and existing levels, and talk through materials. You get a quote covering the full scope. No obligation.
Whether you supply the flooring or we do, wood needs around 48 hours in your home before fitting so it adjusts to the room. We deliver early and plan the start date around it.
Old flooring comes up and goes away. We level and fix the subfloor, then lay the new floor with correct expansion gaps finished with skirting or beading, thresholds, and doors trimmed and rehung.
Before we leave, we walk the finished floor with you and deal with any snagging on the spot. We do not consider the job done until you do.
Floor fitting labour in Fulham typically costs £20–£40 per square metre for straight-lay engineered wood or laminate, depending on the condition of the subfloor and the layout of the room. Parquet and herringbone patterns take longer to lay and usually run £40–£60 per square metre. Supply costs depend on the flooring you choose. R3 Carpentry provide a free site survey and a written quote covering everything — materials, preparation and fitting — before any work begins.
Both. Many Fulham customers choose their own flooring and we fit it — that works well and we are happy to advise on what to buy. We can also supply and fit, sourcing engineered wood, parquet, laminate or LVT through our trade suppliers, which often saves on the retail price. Either way, you get one written quote and one point of contact.
We fit engineered wood, solid hardwood, parquet and herringbone, laminate, LVT (including Karndean) and vinyl flooring. As carpenters and joiners we also handle the work around the floor itself: subfloor preparation, new skirting and beading, door trimming, and matching thresholds between rooms.
A single room in straight-lay engineered wood or laminate is usually fitted in a day. A typical Fulham terrace ground floor — hallway, front room and kitchen — takes two to three days including subfloor preparation. Herringbone and parquet take longer because each block is laid individually. Wood flooring also needs to acclimatise in your home for around 48 hours before fitting, and we build that into the schedule we agree with you.
Yes, with the right product. Engineered wood and LVT are both suitable for underfloor heating; solid wood generally is not, as it moves too much with temperature changes. If you have underfloor heating — common in Fulham’s renovated terraces and newer riverside flats — tell us at the survey and we will recommend boards and an installation method that are warrantied for it.
Yes. We strip out old carpet, laminate or boards, dispose of the waste, and prepare the subfloor before the new floor goes down. Subfloor preparation is the part of the job most often skipped by cheaper fitters — and the most common reason floors creak, bounce or open up at the joints later. We level and fix the subfloor properly before laying anything on top of it.
